Fowler’s research focuses on the social relations and networks involved in crafts and agricultural production in ancient farming societies and early states. His work combines archaeological, geochemical, biological, linguistic, and ethno-historical evidence to challenge what we know of the past while engaging contemporary communities to preserve their crafts, skills, practices, and knowledge of the material world.
Recently taught courses include Archaeology of Death, Digital Archaeology, Palaeodermatoglyphics, Ethnoarchaeology, Stone Walled Structures of Southern Africa, Introduction to Archaeology, and Human Origins and Antiquity
